We are animals of sight. It is a sense we rely heavily on. In drawing iconic subjects, such as, apple or horse, sometimes we draw what we think we know rather than what is right in front of us. Taking away my sight to draw, has become a favorite way to understand and express what it is I want to say about the animals I am working with. In my studio and on the farm, I cover my eyes with an ace bandage to draw, to take in internally, to understand these gentle giants. It takes away the responsibility of reproduction, and always surprises me.
